Featured Projects CFD sea keeping and broaching analysis on 80' Hampton motor yacht  Hampton Yachts and their consulting naval architect, Howard Appolonia, hired Platzer Marine Propulsion to evaluate the seakeeping performance of a new 80 ft version of their Endurance series yachts. The evaluation was done using Platzer Marine Propulsion’s newly established CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamic) capabilities. Several variants of the baseline hullform were evaluated in SeaState 4 and 5 with worse-case stern quartering waves. In addition to providing quantative values of heave, pitch, roll, yaw moment and dynamic rudder forces, the analysis allowed any tendency towards broaching to be evaluated. The novel CFD analysis proved to be a cost effective approach towards evaluating the dynamic performance of vessels in waves. As a virtual laboratory, the CFD analysis provided quantitative information not easily obtained through physical model tests |
